Practical Guide To Gain Knowledge and Acceptance in IT Community
Wednesday, June 20th, 2007Rapid advances in Information Technology (IT) may revolutionize ways in gaining knowledge and acceptance in IT professional world. Shift in mind-set, education curriculum should be made in a short time, as one may radically left behind. Rapid advances in the technology open up huge IT job opportunities. Those who wish to find IT jobs in Indonesia, one simply subscribes to various lowongan mailing lists in Yahoogroups or lowongan.net to be flooded by 10–20 IT lowongan opportunities daily. Not to mention, the daily huge ads in the various newspapers in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia are seeking for IT professionals. Thus, there are too many IT job opportunities with unfortunately very little supply of qualified human resource to fill it.
Unfortunately, most computer science teachers as well as the national curriculum seem to be gentle in responding these rapid advances in IT world. By simple check list, is there any formal education for those who wish to learn on PHP? JavaScript? WML? C++? SQL? ASP? BGP Routing? The answer would unfortunately be NO. An awful condition, simply due to lack of motivation within the educational institutions to keep up with the new advances in Information Technology as well as constrains by the Indonesian Ministry of Education to follow the ancient national IT curriculum else received lower accreditation levels. Thus, to be frank, no one may rely on the formal scheme in gaining knowledge and acceptance in IT community and to survive in IT real world. In other words, one may unfortunately gain nothing from the expensive formal IT education. It forces one to seek the knowledge from other sources to survive. In reality, most of IT knowledge is informally obtained among IT practitioners thru either discussions, open source CD-ROMs or various types of Internet delivery media.
Having IT knowledge would open up a gateway into a vast poll of job and opportunities. It is common in various web sites to place a link on job opportunity available in their companies. Professional C++, web, SQL programmers and network security expert (also known as hacker) may be the most wanted professionals in IT world. Sadly, none of their knowledge was gain in formal schools.
Those professionals are mostly mobile with laptop at hand and other electronic gadgets would receive monthly earnings of at least US$500–1000. An income level that can be reached by those who strive to their best in specialized IT skill in 2–4 years time, based on my observation of my students. The real pro may get away with a couple of US$ tenth thousand project based fee.

All Malaysia.info blog
Monday, June 18th, 2007
This is an interesting blog from our neighbor Malaysia. The country’s bloggers can blog anything here, and can also participate in what is called a blogging contest.
It’s one of good model of community blogs. Let’s take a look!
The AllMalaysian Bloggers Project (AMBP) is an undertaking of the folks behind the AllMalaysia.info website, all of whom believe strongly in the freedom of speech. The objective of this little project is to gather ALL Malaysian blogs under one umbrella site from which (potential) readers can find the various blogs by theme.

AsiaBlogging in eLifeStyle
Sunday, June 17th, 2007In its e-Lifestyle programme, today MetroTV discussed AsiaBlogging.com, as the “umbrella for Asian bloggers.” The host, Roy Suryo started by briefly describing the blogging trends in Indonesia and the launching of AsiaBloggging.com. Then he interviewed Budi Putra as the CEO of AsiaBlogging.com, and Isyana Artharini as one of the author of AsiaBlogging.com.
As an observer of Indonesian Internet and media, Roy asked whether AsiaBlogging would take back Internet from currently running Web 2.0 to previous state with centralised content. Budi responded by explaining that AsiaBlogging is still focused on blogs: personal journalism and opinion. It is organised, but it shows different taste and style with mainstream media. Answering Roy, Budi also told two conditions for a writer to join Asia Blogging: must love writing, and must choose a specific theme to write. “Writing for money” type of writer is not suggested to join AsiaBlogging.
Talking to Isyana, Roy questioned the motivation for a writer to join AsiaBlogging. Isyana told that she loves writing, and she sees the opportunity for writers to improve and to grow by joining AsiaBlogging: the system, the community, the chance to grow, etc. She said that after join AsiaBlogging, she keeps her focus only for writing, neglecting all technical aspects etc.
Roy also mentioned that AsiaBlogging is the first initiative in Asia for its kind, and fourth in the world. Concluding the programme, Budi said that AsiaBlogging just opened the opportunity. He’s expecting better authors to join and develop AsiaBlogging together, and better system to be applied.
AsiaBlogging.com started in Asia (CNET Asia Blog)
Saturday, June 16th, 2007Budi Putra, AsiaBlogging.com CEO and founder wrote more information about Asia Blogging Network (ABN) in his CNET Asia Blog. In his article, Budi wrote about some reasons — and great points — about this network. He also explained about the reason why this new blog network started in Asia.
“Because of fast-growing blogosphere in this region. Asia is also an emerging market in Internet content especially for blogging, multimedia sharing and social networking” — Budi Putra.
AsiaBlogging.com was two weeks ago, and we are proud to be part of Asian blogosphere. Let’s bring Asia to the world!
Thank you for your letters!
Wednesday, June 13th, 2007Few days after we launched AsiaBlogging.com, we got many letters from our contact form. And we never thought that we have many positive responds. So, allow me — on the behalf of all team members and bloggers — to say: thank you!
We received many application letters — and we want to inform you that we got every single email sent from our handy contact form. But you probably haven’t got any responses from us. It’s not only that we handle each email one by one, but also we found it hard to give answers. I want to share some tips when you send emails:
- If you want to apply to be our bloggers (or guest writers), let us know about yourself in your first email. Tell about who you are, let us know about your blogs. Give us as many information about “you”.
- Provide a valid email address and real name. We do not know all bloggers in Indonesia (or Asia). It’s better to mention your real name than putting “Me”, “Anonymous”, “Blogger from Indonesia”. If you publish articles in our blogs, your personal information will be published (at least your real name).
- Help us to answer your inquiries. Sometime, we find it hard to give responds. We only got email like this:
- “I want to join this network”
- “I want to register my blog”
- “Hi, I love blogging!”
Once again, we love receiving emails. We always wait for your feedbacks and ideas from all bloggers (and our site visitors). If you send us emails, we will reach you back — if your emails really needs answers. If you do not receive respond on the next day, be patient… take your time to browse blogs in our network. And if you haven’t heard anything from us in a week, you can contact us again.
